Reviews 2100

For their 100th release, Rune Grammofon commissioned 13 original pieces from their roster to display the label´s unerring ability to present a diverse range of approaches while maintaining a firm grip on its aesthetic. Even at its most abstract, it errs towards clarity and hygiene in both its sonics and visuals. The strenght of Rune Kristoffersen's vision is such that, even when one finds little of interest in an artist, there's little doubt they belong on the label ... Ultralyd's "Salinity and Brine" showcases their increasing maturity with hushed harmonics, opaque drones and the intermittent rumble and clatter of percussion; Bushman´s Revenge follow up their recent album with "Barbara", a shot of soulful R&B reminiscent of Bill Frisell´s soundtrack work and recent Earth on 45 rpm. The Rune Grammofon mainstays also aquit themselves brilliantly. Deathprod's "Mysterium Magnum" is typically impressive, its howling sonics gathering like stormclouds on the horizon, rapidly drawing closer and then rushing overhead. Similarly forbidding is Maja Ratkje's "Breathe", its foghorn-like bass bursts countered with a menagerie of purrs, groans, clicks and croaks. Finally, Supersilent's Zawinul-flavored "C-7.1" rounds off the collection on a downbeat note that nevertheless speaks volumes for the continued health of the outfit and their label. its foghorn-like bass bursts countered with a menagerie of purrs, groans, clicks and croaks. Finally, Supersilent's Zawinul-flavored "C-7.1" rounds off the collection on a downbeat note that nevertheless speaks volumes for the continued health of the outfit and their label.

The ever exeptional Rune Grammofon is 12 years and 100 releases old, and so to celebrate offer up a compilation album featuring some of their most esteemed artists. This is no hastily shoveled together label sampler, however. Anyone who came across the excellent "Money Will Ruin Everything 2" from 2008 will know that Rune Grammofon take great care when compiling snd presenting a selection of their roster, and "Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep" (quoted from Yeats´ "The Second Coming ") feels more like a cohesive and unified body of work than some random compilation ... Best comes near the end with Jenny Hval´s hauntingly beguiling" Golden Locks "an exceptional piece of numbled contemplative improvisation in the manner of the most recent recordings from Supersilent and, most effectively, Deathprod's "

Hats off to Norwegian label Rune Grammofon for creating this month´s most sumptuous double LP, in celebration of its one hundredth release since the imprint was established a dozen years ago. "Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep" is a collection of previosuly unheard tracks ny 13 artists from the label's impressive stable.

The Norwegian label inspirationally blurring the lines between rock, jazz and art celebrates its birthday in typically manifold fashion. As a primer to one of the great labels, look no further.

This compilation brings together unpublished pieces from the Rune gramophone house bands. The whole thing is also available in a package, limited to 100 pieces as a special box with two 180-gram LPs, plus Supersilent 100 and a record by a secret artist. It's all a question of luxury and probably also money. The title of the compilation contributes a lot to the confusion, as there is an independent band of the same name. It turns out, however, that both - the band and Rune Grammofon - refer to a quote from William Butler Yeats or his poem "the second coming". What we hear one after the other: Alog move echoes of Sonic Youth into a roughly concrete garage, The Low Frequency In Stereo disguise themselves as Carlos Santana, calmly trickle the electrolytes at Ultralyd, Live recordings of the Espen Eriksen Trio and In The Country have a penchant for romanticism, Bushman's Revenge, as always, has the blues. Hilde Marie Kjersem makes her dear need a virtue, Stian Westerhus sows the experimental field, Maja Ratkje shows perseverance. Jenny Hval exults like an angel, Puma purrs contentedly in the face of the uneventfulness. Finally, Helge Sten intervenes twice, once as a Deathprod, once with Supersilent, both times with subtle beauty and superficial contemplation. And vice versa. Almost needless to say that the best comes to the end. All in all, an ideal insight into the pluralistic sound universe of Rune Grammofon. All in all, an ideal insight into the pluralistic sound universe of Rune Grammofon. once with Supersilent, both times with subtle beauty and superficial contemplation. And vice versa. Almost needless to say that the best comes to the end. All in all, an ideal insight into the pluralistic sound universe of Rune Grammofon. once with Supersilent, both times with subtle beauty and superficial contemplation. And vice versa. Almost needless to say that the best comes to the end. All in all, an ideal insight into the pluralistic sound universe of Rune Grammofon.

In the far north there is a small but fine label that has made unconventional music its content. His 100th CD is a kind of inventory and offers an excellent introduction to the cosmos of improvised Norwegian music. Whether Espen Eriksen (piano trio), Ultralyd (avant-garde) or Stian Westerhus (electric jazz): the 13 tracks on this anniversary CD absolutely make you want more. Hilde Marie Kjersem, Jenny Hval and In the Country contribute excellent vocal music. Contrasting with it Ultralyd, Puma and Deathprod, which convince with improvised electronic music. Low frequency in stereo and Bushman's Revenge are rockier. All in all a wonderful mix that makes you want more: for example on the 10th CD of the hardcore ambient jazz group Supersilent, also located at Rune Gramofon, but this time it is much quieter and comes with an acoustic piano. Congratulations on your anniversary. Keep it up!

Rune Grammofon was created twelve years ago when bassist and producer Rune Kristoffersen decided to take matters into his own hands in the face of insufficient forums for Norwegian music beyond the usual market categories. This autumn the label celebrates its hundredth release with the sampler "Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep". Thirteen mostly exclusive tracks span the spectrum from noise rock and progressive electro to balladesque and ambient for advanced players. The trio Supersilent around trumpeter Arve Henriksen is one of the best known projects on Rune Grammofon. "10" leads as installation and spatial music further into the realm of textures of electronic, minimalist, avant-garde origin. The fourth album of the Scorch Trio "Melaza", on the other hand, makes noise above all - hectic Post Free Noise, which stems from Raoul Björkenheim's guitar and band communication. Finally, Ultralyd are considered pioneers of free metal and merge powerfully and powerfully with "Inertiadrome" industrial ideas with collaged soundscapes and psychedelic sound thunder. A label with exploratory music that just puts the cliché of the ethereal north straight.

Noise of Norway: "Twenty Centuries of Stony Sleep" celebrates the 100th release of the Norwegian label rune grammophon, responsible for the experimental cornerstones of jazz, rock and pop - which then often means besides jazz rock also noise rock, free jazz or ambient. All of this is represented on the compilation with representative pieces from 13 acts of the label.

Rune Grammofon is a famous label from Oslo, home to bold sound experiments and sensitive swinging Nordland music. This compilation with the wonderfully psychedelic title and lots of new compositions is a good introduction to the world of the producer Rune Kristoffersen. It starts with sharp noise rock (alog), continues with a fantasy about the Allman Brothers Band in club sound (The Low Frequency In Stereo), and extensive ambient music for friends of Brian Eno (Ultralyd). This is followed by well-behaved ECM piano sounds (Espen Eriksen Trio), naughty ECM piano sounds (In The Country), the serenity exercise of a power trio (Bushman's Revenge), preppy singer / songwriter pop (Hilde Marie Kjersem), a solo guitar Number with radical certificate of a new star in the merciless guitar sky (Stian Westerhus), a ghost hour by the sea with the expulsion of evil spirits (Maja Ratkje), seduction made art with simple melody lines (Jenny Hval), an electro-acoustic sound sculpture (Puma), arctic climate research by the master of the audio virus (Deathprod), and, as a long one Conclusion, multi-layered, relaxed dreaming of the label's most famous formation (Supersilent). Your sleep, dear reader, will not be stony after this meal!

The exciting journey began twelve years ago, the stages of which the Norwegian label 'runegrammofon' has repeatedly sent us. Exactly 100 albums have been released since then - and some discoveries have come to light. This extensive compilation has now put together 13 (not only instrumental) songs by the most important label artists (old and new) specially recorded for this album. If you want to listen to the exciting world of Norwegian experimental musicians, you will find appetite stimulants between hypnotic grooves, calm, intense soundscapes with this meaningful calm, dark, partly electronic sound experiments and at least a subtle freak-out. But the warning should also be given immediately: With this potential for discovery there is a risk of addiction!

Twenty Centuries Of Stony Sleep documentary at det går. Albumet
består av 13 låter, ingen av demtidligere utgitt. The store juvet mellom uttrykkene åpner seg allerede mellom de to første låtene. Alog og The Low Frequency In Stereo beveger seg i hver sin musikalske verden, men deler en visjon der nerve er et imperativ. Spranget videre til Espen Eriksen Trios acoustical piano jazz he også formidabelt. The pussige he at man såre grands kommer seg over som lytter. Supersilent for all sorts of slik bare de kan. Congratulations! 6/6.
